How to become a flexitarian

Like the idea of vegetarianism but don't want to give up meat? Try becoming a flexitarian. Here are some ways to ease into the transition.

- Set a goal of how many days you're going to go meatless each week. Start with one and work your way up.
- Try the tofu. Try eating new sources of protein to get those important vitamins.
- Go half way. Eat half the meat you normally would and fill up on veggies to complete your meal.
- Go for the grain. They're high in protein, fiber and other nutrients.
- Drink your milk, you're soy milk. You still need calcium and vitamin D.
- If you want it. Eat it. There are many meat substitutes that you can choose from. But in the long run, if you're craving meat, eat some. That's why it's called flexitarian.

5 reasons to go vegetarian

1. You'll save money! Meats and fish are usually the most expensive items in any grocery cart. Cut the meat and cut the price.

2. It's slimming. On the whole vegetarians weigh less, about 15% less, than their meat eating counterparts.

3. It's good for your heart. Veggies are chock full of potassium.

4. It protects against cancer.

5. It's good for the planet. Animals require 11 times more energy and 26 times more water to produce.
