just freeze it

you can pretty much freeze anything. which is really nice b/c then you don't have to worry about leftovers spoiling or buying too much of a sale item. good housekeeping offers a great freezing guide. here are some of their tips: avoid any extra air, this prevents freezer burn, if you defrost using the microwave, fully cook the food before refreezing, and if you change your mind, make sure it's still partially frozen in order to refreeze.

instant side dish

If you freeze wild rice it will last 3-4 months compared to a week in the refrigerator. Make a whole bunch and just freeze away for an easy instant side dish.

freezing works wonders

Don't throw out all that leftover wine: Freeze into ice cubes for future use in casseroles and sauces. It's easier to store than full bottles and will stay fresher frozen.

Instead of throwing away the left over tomato paste, and there's always a bunch left over, we know, spoon the left over paste into ice cube trays.
