5 ways to eat 5 a day


Did you know eating five or more servings of fruits and vegetables a day can help reduce the risk of cancer? It's true. The National Cancer Institute initiated the 5 a day program after researching these effects. Fruits and vegetables can also help lower blood pressure as well. Here's some ways to boost your intake:

- drink juice instead of coffee
- add fruit to your cereal
- eat a salad for lunch with a side of veggie soup
- snack on raisins or celery and carrot sticks during the day
- freeze juice for a healthy popsicle

Just in case they miss the classic peanut butter cookie here's the recipe:

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup crunchy peanut butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup light brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Beat butter, peanut butter and sugars. Beat in eggs. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix into batter. Refrigerate for one hour. Roll into one-inch balls and put on baking sheets. Flatten each ball with a fork, making a criss-cross pattern. Bake for about 10 minutes or until cookies begin to brown.

Sunmaid is offering a free fruit and sunshine recipe book.




Try this tasty raisin tapenade:

3 cups raisins, chopped
2 teaspoons sherry vinegar
1 tablespoon sugar
dash of salt

Add vinegar, sugar and salt to the raising to make a paste. That's it!
